Key research areas include the development of nanomaterials for biomedicine, environmental protection and surface modification of materials, computer modelling, data analysis, environmental geography, etc.

The faculty's research activities focus on basic research, although they increasingly include applied topics that have a broader societal impact.

The Faculty cooperates closely with major Czech and foreign academic and research institutions and increasingly also with the private sector. This collaboration allows students to engage in research projects, generates topics for student papers and opens up opportunities for internships and post-study employment.
