About Us
We are the only humanities faculty in the Ústí nad Labem region. We bring back memory to our region, teach it the language of its neighbours and address its social, cultural and political problems.
Although the Faculty has its feet and heart in the Ústí nad Labem region, it prides itself on national and international cooperation, and supports and welcomes all guests from elsewhere.

Study
You won't just be sitting through seminars.
- Students of German Studies maintain strong cross-border contacts with Dresden and other German universities.
- Historians work in archives and museums, go on excursions and participate in field research.
- Political scientists and philosophers do internships in the Parliament of the Czech Republic, regional and other offices.
- You can relax in the well-equipped study rooms that are set up in each department.
- In short, we follow Seneca's words and prepare students not only for further studies but also for real life.
Science and Research
Should you want to, you can get involved in science and research right away.
Our Institute of Slavonic and German Studies is also primarily focused on research; thanks to this Institue, for example, a modern textbook of Czech-Saxon history for secondary schools was created.
The Centre for Documentation and Digitisation of Cultural Heritage is equipped with the latest technology for monument research, including 3D documentation and aerial prospection, and is involved in interesting research in the region and beyond in sites you can't get to otherwise. Monument documentation is a detective story.
The Centre for Support of German Language Education and Intercultural Education (CEPRONIV) organises many practical workshops and collaborates on interesting cultural events.
Why to Study at the Faculty
- Because we will treat you like junior colleagues. We will treat you individually. We'll invite you into research projects and all faculty activities.
- We invest the money we receive for science and research in further research and publishing - in you. We will support you if you decide to travel and try science abroad as part of one of our programmes.
- We'll connect you with partners from the practice and send you on interesting internships. We will involve you in the social and cultural life of the city and the region, which we try to cultivate through our activities.
- We will welcome you in modernly renovated and equipped premises with good facilities and family atmosphere. We will try to influence you so that you do not drown in the omnipresent global chaos and consumerism; so that you know that without ideals and moral principles, you cannot live well.
- And once we let you out of the nest, we'll be proud of you.

Achievements
- Collaboration on successful exhibitions, involvement in international research, exhibition projects overseas, publications of important scholarly works, organizing and co-organizing conferences, and obtaining projects and scholarships for our academics and students.
- Bez hranic (National Gallery in Prague); Children born of war – past, present and future (Horizon 2020); Broken Wings Exhibition (Washington D. C.); unique Libri civitatis series; conference on the anniversary of the Czech Constitution (Senate of the Czech Republic); Fulbright - Masaryk Scholarship - J. Goll Award and many others.
- But mainly educated, happy graduates and students.
- We are actively promoting success of the Faculty of Arts, even though we know, like Albert Einstein, that it is neither the only nor the main goal.
